Bare Boards And A Passion Presents Weavers Of Grass

The Mill on the Fleet, Gatehouse of Fleet, DG7 2HS

 Sat 23rd May 2020 - Mon 25th May 2020

Running Time: 60 mins
Suitable for All Ages

In a multi-media performance, award winning poet Chrys
Salt and acclaimed harper Wendy Stewart weave the
extraordinary story of Angus MacPhee, a crofter from
South Uist who went off to war in 1939, fell ill with a form
of schizophrenia and was sent to Craig Dunain Mental
Institution outside Inverness. For the next fifty years Angus
chose to remain almost totally silent, but went about
weaving amazing garments from the grass and leaves he
harvested from the hospital grounds.

A rich and enthralling exploration of mental health, the
creative process, human frailty and ancient traditions.

'A wonderfully touching true story.' The Sunday Herald

'This is a sequence of boldness and of sympathy; as unlikely
as it may seem - and as mysterious - we may call it a
meeting of imaginations'. Tom Pow: poet

Venue supported by Thomas Tosh.
