Join Scotland's US business ambassador Ian Houston to hear how Robert Burns influenced some of America's leading thinkers

 

About this event

In conversation with Ian Houston, President of the Scotland Business Network US, in the unique setting of Ellisland, the farm designed and built by Robert Burns near Dumfries. Ian will reflect on the way Burns shaped the thoughts of progressive American leaders, including Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln and anti slavery campaigner Frederick Douglass. Ian lives in Washington DC and has a monthly column in The Herald newspaper called "Letter from America". He is a published poet and serves on the board of The Robert Burns Ellisland Trust, the charity formed last year to preserve and develop Ellisland Farm and Museum, the home of Auld Lang Syne. Ian will be introduced by Dr David Hopes, Vice Chair of the Robert Burns Ellisland Trust, who will talk about its plans for Ellisland. David is currently Director of Leeds Museums. A Native of Kilmarnock, he was formerly director of The Robert Burns Birthplace Museum and Head of Collections at the National Trust for Scotland. Robert Burns Ellisland Trust is a SCIO SC049973
